This was another collaboration i was to do last year with the fabulous creative director and stylist Chiara Bianchino for her Absorb projects. it was incredibly rewarding and my favourite work to date. Once again i was given complete creative freedom to do my magic and with the great team on board (full credits on original vimeo link) we successfully crafted this fashion video piece. How the project came about was that i approached Chiara about wanting to do a UV makeup, something i had wanted to do for yrs now, chiara being as amazing as she is went straight into top gear and conceptualised the idea using themes of frenetic hyperactivity, psychological terrains and split personalities stemmed from Tokyo inspirations and neon extravaganza. to complement the idea i made fluro and metallic cutout cardboard shapes and constructed them using scrap-booking techniques to form 3Dimensional shapes, embellishing them with lashes to create further texture and using duo eyelash glue to adhere them to the face. with my trusty wolfe brother neon palette handy i was able to enhance and build on the the lips and eyeliner to create those final glowing touches. and of course long metallic false nails were a must! the design was inspired by Christian Dior runway looks done by only the best…Pat McGrath but it was important to make it my own and hence the push into a more sculptural and animated design. Was a great project to be involved in and a great opportunity to really push my self in my makeup Artistry skills. mind you this project wouldnt of been doable without the hard work of a big team of talent and some amazing models who know how to strut there stuff and pull some real quirky faces!! once again a great japenese punk tune so pump up the volume. enjoy all xx

i have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with the super talent creative director and my creative partner in crime Chiara Bianchino these last few months working alongside her for her Absorb projects. this was one of the fashion films we created last year, which was such a great project to be involved in and lots of fun! She gives me complete creative freedom which i love and i look forward to doing much more of this type of work and stretching creative boundaries. the makeup was created using strong dark contouring and freehand doodling with liquid liner to create the makeup designs. inspired by looks from John Galliano runway looks and Alex Box, my Makeup Hero. Enjoy. turn your volume up this tune rocks by Zola Jesus. A big thank you to Doran Lu for the fabulous hair and Lu Wang my wonderful friend and Assistant. rest of credits on the original Vimeo link.

This was another personal project i did the end of last year in my ventures to explore textural makeup. the lovely and stunning Madeline Mason was my model, and my new favourite muse! Styling was by Elizabeth Kite and creative concept and photography was by me. how it came about was the bins in the back alley behind my house were set alight by some reckless kids and i couldn’t help but be strangely inspired by the burnt residue and flamed wall. so i was on a mission to do a makeup using it as the backdrop before the council came and cleaned it up. Once again i really enjoyed this shoot. one of my personal favourite to date. i loved how dark and beautifully eery it was. i wanted to incorporate the idea of Ash and black muck into the makeup, therefore to achieve the look i used a combination of paint, pigment, Bicarb soda and Sand to create the effect on the skin. My poor models really do put up a brave face when it comes to these experiments! they never complain - bless! hope you enjoy. have another personal project shoot next week with the lovely Madeline so watch this space for new work =)

My most recent personal project with the lovely Mae Garza Caballes. She was an absolute trooper as i covered her in shaving cream and black paint pretty much from head to toe! was my own styling and photography inspired by an oil painting i had seen. I will try and upload if i can track down the original pic. Really enjoyed this project. these more experimental and textural abstract makeups are both challenging and liberating. i feel they really allow me to explore and express more of painting background in new and more contemporary ways - combining my love of both makeup and Art. i am naturally detail retentive so its hard to let go sometimes and to just let the material do the work. but then of course there is always the challenge of trying to also make the application deliberate and not just messy or sloppy, its a fine line. Was very therapeutic none the less…maybe not so much for Melanie lol! I’m hoping to really explore further this abstract style, fulfilling my love and fascination of texture and pattern. alot of my makeup is trial and error but i am a believer in taking risks, i think that is when we grow the most and can be our most creative.

Success is when i add value to myself, significance is on the other hand when i add value to others

a quote very close to my heart. To be able to inspire others is the greatest reward in ones industry.

Abit about me…

I am a qualified Makeup Artist based in Sydney. I spend my weekdays at COFA doing a full time bachelor of fine Arts and spend my weekends working as a makeup artist for Make up Store cosmetics, all the while trying to collaborate with artistic people as much as is possible.

I am creative, passionate and love to transform and push artistic boundaries. I adore anything quirky, abstract and unique. I also love to experiment with incorporating materials as an extension of my make up application, taking on a sculptural element in my work, a style i hope to expand and explore in-depth over the years to come, setting me apart from the rest.

I’m not so interested in following trends but rather in starting them. I’m driven by ideas, keen on originality, passionate about innovation, overwhelmed by inspiration. I’m certainly a perfectionist, definately a non conformist. super practical. alittle Zany. passionate about my craft. loyal in all aspects. Artistic. A Coffee lover. easy going. believer and continually a doer.

welcome to my world. an insight into what i do, what inspires me, what encourages me and i can only hope can do the same for all who follow.
